Have you ever looked at something that changed the way you did things before? That is what happened to Jesse Hoskins the Milan high school football head coach. Over the COVID 19 quarantine Hoskins started researching programs and workouts so that he could get the football team running faster. I have realized as a player there are a lot more things different than just the workouts and the sprint technique we do every Monday. Hoskins is very considerate about how our bodies feel and he understands that we can’t get better if we are tired from doing things all the time that we aren’t going full speed for.
Hoskins' winter program has changed a lot from the first 2 years I did it to the 3rd year. The first 2 years the lift program was more of conditioning the muscles when we lifted and stretching and being loose. Now the program is “bulking” (lifting heavy weights for minimal reps) which is a big change that I noticed from this year compared to past years. Another thing that is different now from how it used to be is the conditioning. The way conditioning was the first two years was at the end of each practice you would get on the sideline and you would run 2 or 3 gassers (running from one side of the field and back).
I will say that this new program Hoskins is following does help for a lot of the football players because a lot of people’s 40 yard dash times are getting better and better even though the football season, which is impressive because the body should be getting slower after playing in these games and having practice every day. This program is also a good way to be staying fast but also being able to give your body the rest that it needs to perform at a high level. In conclusion, Hoskins's new sprint training program is beneficial to the people in his gym class, but this is more impactful to the athletes in Milan high school because it will improve speed which is one of the key factors to any sport you play.
