Mrs. Schlack and her general business students are reopening the school store. On September 9, 2021, the work began to open the store back up at Milan High School. School stores are used to up student morale and collect revenue for the school. Last year, students were not able to have the school store open, due to COVID. Students missed being able to run down and buy slushies, snacks, and more. This re-opening has been long awaited.
The class is working hard to advertise the store as well. Students created social media platforms for the school store called “The Nest.” This creates a new way to see what is available and new at the store. Teenagers use technology a lot, having these platforms helps to connect the students and the school. Students are also building a website. They will be offering online ordering. They will also be advertising by sending postcards to Big Red parents.
The students are working together to remodel the store. They plan to get string lights, tables, banners to hang in the store, and much more. They are also repainting the store. “We are working on painting the brick wall red to match Milan’s school colors.” -Kaitlyn Pfeiffer, General Business Student.
Students can turn in second hand school gear that can be resold to the store as well. They are hoping to re-purpose any clothing item that has a Milan logo on it. It can be the bird, the tree, “big reds”, or anything correlated with Milan. This offers more opportunities for the students. It also gets them more engaged with the school. Turning in the gear can enter you into a raffle for Air Pods.
The class is brainstorming new items to offer in the store. They are considering adding things like bucket hats, windbreakers, sunglasses, tumblers, and more! The student staff has grown a lot from past years. Students will be running the store during classes, and during lunches, as part of their classwork for general business.
Check out their Instagram page @Milan.School.Store. The school stores website will be coming soon as well!
