Milan Equestrian riding to Regionals for the second time in two years!
The Milan equestrian team is made up of 14 amazing and dedicated riders who compete in three district meets for their season. If they succeed and excel they can make it to regionals and states. Our team has made it to regionals the last two years. Every rider has to contribute and has to go in the classes your coach assigns you. Last year, we managed to go above and beyond and received reserve regional champions and moved on to states, we are hoping to accomplish this again this year. Regionals will take place at the Igham county fairgrounds, starting October 1st and ending October 3rd. The Milan Equestrian team is a very unrated sport. Not many people understand that you don’t have teammates, you have a 1,500 pound animal as your teammate, and they are going to have bad days. In conclusion, the Milan Equestrian team would love the support of the community and fellow high school students. You could gain knowledge on what horse shows are and how we care for our horses.
The Milan Equestrian team is the largest it has been in history with a number of 14 riders. When the sport was first put together and established we were only a club sport. But with a lot of hard work and dedication, the past teams made it into a varsity sport in 1991. Last year, the team was one of the two A teams (with a number of 11 kids), and we made it to regionals. At regionals we competed against 8 different A teams, and managed to qualify for states. At states we competed against 16 A teams and received 7th place. The team has not made it to states since 2004, so this was huge for the team.
Overall, this team has worked so hard to where we are today. From practicing two times a week, from showing in classes we have never tried to help the team earn points. We are always looking for new riders and ways to improve our riding. Personally, over the last 4 years I have been on this team, we all have become super close and have gotten so many opportunities.
