The Milan Future Farmers of America group held their annual hog roast last Friday, September 17th, the event ran from 4:30 to 7 pm it took place at the Highschool outside the MCIS by the greenhouse. The tickets were on sale for 10 dollars at the door although the students were encouraged to buy a ticket before arriving as they were sold at a reduced cost of $8. The group also had some deals for people buying multiple tickets at once such as 2 for $16. They managed to sell 130 tickets and in turn were able to raise $1300. This money will likely be used for the upcoming national convention for hands-on work areas. This money also helps pay for Milan FFA merchandise for the students. This was the first hog roast under a new supervisor du
e to corona causing the cancelation of the hog roast last year, overall this is the 8th annual hog roast previously put on by the now-retired Botany teacher. The Milan FFA will be using all of the funds raised for future events for the FFA. This is not the only group that has to raise money for their FFA, there are a plethora of groups in Michigan such as Novi, all running programs to ra
ise funds for their chapter. The students of Milan FFA operated and supplied most of the ingredients and supplies for the hog roast, all taking shifts at the tables tending to the customers a
nd doing their best to help raise money. They had a great amount of food and halfway through they ran out of meat for the pork sandwiches and the student who supplied the meat luckily had more meat at their house and all they had to do was warm it up and season it. They also had cheesy potatoes and a small selection of soda such as Coca-Cola and Sprite. They were most busy toward the beginning due to students getting out of class and it was steady for the rest of the night.
