Milan Football Season Coming to a Close

With the football season coming to an abrupt stop on November 5, 2021, against the Chelsea Bulldogs. The Milan Big Reds finished the season with a record of 8-3 with being eliminated in the District Championship. Milan Varsity will be losing a lot of key players for the following season: QB/LB Cole McElvany, HB/LB/DB Evan Morelock, WR/DB Jett Isaacs, OL/DL Evan Budd, and TE/DB Ethan Budd. Cole McElvany finished the season with 2,362 total yards on offense and 104 tackles. Evan Morelock finished the season with 91 tackles and a 100% completion percentage on the season. Jett Isaacs finished the season with 1,098 all-purpose yards and 82 tackles 1 interception and 7 passes deflected. Ethan Budd finished the season with 2 interceptions 61 tackles and 132 receiving yards with 2 touchdowns. Finally, Evan Budd finished the season with 64 tackles. Since the season I have asked two of the senior captains how they felt about their final season coming to an end. Cole McElvany said “It was really good to get to one last season playing with my friends. It sucks that it had to end, but it was fun while it lasted and I’m glad I got to experience it.” Then Evan Morelock’s thought on his final season was “A good season and we definitely continued to improve as the year went on, I just wish it would’ve ended differently.” These Milan High School seniors as long with others wish they could turn back the clock and have one more season. Sadly the sun has set on the seniors’ time and now the underclassmen will have to rise to challenges for the following season. Staying on the underclassmen I asked what junior Connor Dessellier and freshman Elijah Cartwright. Connor believes that he has a team for next year that is already buying in to have a great season by stating “I like how people are already putting in work.” Connor also believes that there will be doubters; he believes “I think we will be better than what people think.” Elijah, also known by the team as “Seabiscuit”, believes they will have “good size on the line” and “backs” and will have to “hope for the big reds.” I and the rest of the Milan Big Red community will be fighting for the boys to have a comeback season and get further than the guys before them.
