On Friday, September 24th, Milan Big Red cheerleaders will do a performance at the pep rally. They have been practicing since their season started. In the main gym after they announce the football players then the cheerleaders will come out and do a performance. In August, MHS cheerleaders did a cheer camp and this is where they learned the whole routine and practiced getting ready. They do this to get students hyped up for the homecoming game later that night.
Homecoming has always been a celebration at high schools and it is a fun way to get students participating and excited. Every year the cheerleaders perform a cheer, dance, stunt sequence, and stunt pyramid, to learn everything it takes about a couple of months. For high schoolers, this is a fun experience, but for the cheerleaders, it can be stressful. Senior cheerleader, Hattie Williams states, “preparing for the pep rally has been very stressful and a lot has been pushed on us at once”. These cheerleaders have school, cheer, jobs, etc… Around this time it is hard to squish everything into their schedule. Although they love doing this, it is a lot to put into high schoolers
When talking to the team, they said they just want everyone to enjoy the routine they put together. These students also have to cheer during the parade after school. They walk downtown and chant while the band plays in front of them. Right after school, they prepare for the parade. From the parade, they then go to the Big Red football field where they will cheer through the whole game. As cheerleaders, they stunt, chant, and cheer on the football players.
There is a lot to prepare for, for these MHS cheerleaders. As a community, Milan residents can cheer them on and help chant along at the games. The games are Friday nights at 7 pm.
