Students at Milan High School have been working very hard to get our school store open down in the MCIS. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our school was not able to have a school store open last year. There is a fourth-period elective class that has been working very hard on getting the school store together. They started this process on September 9th, 2021. The main purpose of the school store is to create revenue for our school.
The school store students first started off their sales trying to collect old and used Milan t-shirts. The purpose of this was to get old Milan t-shirts to sell to students. In return, students get a surprise for donating old shirts. The donation of the shirts will help the start of the school store.
Students around our building are excited for the school store to open back up as well. Seniors Lauren Fairbanks and Gustavo Saavedra are excited as well. “I am excited to be able to go get a snack from the store if I get hungry during the day,” Lauren said. “I am looking forward to getting slushies again,” Gustavo said. The wait has been long but these students are ready to get back in the store!
One of the cool things about the school store is that we have two locations in the school. The first location is where the school store used to be in the academic rotunda. This is the one that everyone is familiar with and is probably the place they think of when they hear about the school store. The other and second location is in the MCIS located next to Mrs. Schlack’s room. This will be exciting for our students that have classes down in the MCIS and will provide a more interactive experience down there as well.
The most important thing about the school store is that it is run by students of Milan High School. This gives students the benefit to work with their peers and sell to their peers. I think this is the most important thing because it shows that students want to be involved in the school and show their school spirit!
