On September 17th, SMCC (St. Mary Catholic Central) traveled to the Big Reds' hometown of Milan to play them in a Friday night game. Both were closely matched in a game that came out to 21-15, SMCC winning the game. The scores were back and forth throughout most of the game. Milan secured the first points scoring a touchdown, then getting the two-point conversion within the first five minutes of the first quarter. The score then came to 21-15 after a few touchdowns and extra kicks. Milan had the ball with about 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. Milan had to score a touchdown to tie it, then kick an extra point to finish the game. If they missed the kick it would still go into overtime. The big reds tried their best but the SMCC defense led by Emiliano Sauceda was too dominant to let them get the first down. They got a turnover on downs with about one minute left. SMCC then ran the clock out securing the game making them 4-0.
Players for Milan struggled to keep playing during the game one of them being Jett Isaacs. He went down a total of 3 times in one game. After asking Jett about his injuries he said “After diving for the ball the kid ended up elbowing my leg which made the rest of the game difficult to play.” The other two times he got injured were the same cause but he didn't want to talk about it and said he cried after the game. He also responded by saying he should be good by next week. One person who was able to play this week was Stapey (Timothy Neil Stapleton). Stapey had an injury before the football season, not letting him play in the first three games. Stapey was healthy and ready to play week 4. After asking Stapey about his debut he responded with “it was pretty fun, usually I'm leading the student section in the chants but actually being on the other side of them is something I have no words for.” The student section was electric seeing Stapey on the field. The loss was a bad loss but Milan is still 3 and 1. The Milan Big Reds will be playing Flat Rock next week in Milan.
