As some of you may know our school has our very own drumline. Our Milan High School Drumline consists of 19 people. Class of 2022 seniors, Devin Glushyn, Cody Vavrek, Logan Essex, Brody Paselk, Rachel Helzerman, and Oscar Haeske. Class of 2023 juniors, Cameron Satterley, Ben Orlando, Jonathan Segieda. Class of 2024 sophomores, Carter Somerville, Gabriella Dryden, Kayden Englehart, Mackenzie Mcdaniel, Maya Faro, and Angelina Pena. Lastly the class of 2025 freshmen, Owen Burdette, Carden Lambers, Kooper Scarbrough, and Wesley Murphy. This group of talented individuals goes above and beyond to help support our school and community. They have practices at 5:30 every Monday night and show up half an hour early apart from the rest of the band for every game. This ensures that their routine is spot on. You can see this magnificent group of individuals perform live either during the Friday football games, parades, and any other special events.
Why write about something like this well it provides a learning experience for others and can get the word out about groups that deserve more recognition. I feel that the drumline along with the band itself represents our school’s spirit. At any school event, the drumline is there supporting the school and gets the crowd full of energy. They go out of their way to practice to deliver outstanding performances and never disappoint. With a number of different people on different drums, to be exact there are three quad players, four snares, six basses, and five cymbal players. The sounds intertwine with each other providing a groovy beat.
This year’s drumline captains are seniors Devin Glushyn and Cody Vavrek. They help guide the rest of the 17 members. Without their direct leadership skills, the drumline might not be where it is right now. They carry on what was first established by Kyle Gulau. He approached the director of the band, Alicia Upton, and asked if he could form a drumline. With her support and guidance, Kyle was able to make it happen. The drumline has now been around for 16 years and counting. To many more outstanding years to come.
