The students and staff attended the Homecoming dance on September 25th at 7pm and it ended at 11pm. The staff held the dance just outside the MCIS and the food was held inside the MCIS. The masks were required inside the MCIS but not mandated outside. They have held homecoming dances here for many years now. A year and a half ago in March of 2020, Covid-19 hit. Prom was canceled and school was shut down. We are very lucky that we are having dances this year. Covid has mostly gone away but it's still around for schools due to so many people in one building. The staff said that if there is a covid outbreak after this homecoming dance we wouldn't have a prom or it would be different.
After Homecoming on Saturday, I want to do an interview of a couple of staff members and a couple students as well to compare their opinions about how they think the dance went. I would also ask the staff what they think of possible covid outbreaks from the dance and the students as well. I would ask them how they think that the next homecoming dance could be better for new students and recurring students. The biggest question for next year's student council to know to help for the homecoming dance in 2022 would be what's the biggest thing that has changed that you liked and did not like. That could help next year's staff and make more students want to come to homecoming.
Some students don't come to the homecoming dance. They have social anxiety, maybe it's covid, or they can't afford a ticket or clothes to wear. Maybe they just don't like how homecoming dances are. What do you think would bring those students into wanting to come? Different foods? Different music? Different dress codes or held somewhere else or different dates? What would bring more students into coming to the dance? But also the MCIS is very small, it isn't as big as the gym. A question for Milan staff would be the Gym is a way bigger area, has good speakers as well plus plenty of room. Why has homecoming never been held in the gym? You can still look over students due to the track being upstairs, plenty of room for food and seats with bleachers and more speakers. What is the real truth and honest answer why we've never had homecoming in the gym?
