There have been a lot of changes this year, and the school store is no exception. The state of Michigan has set new regulations for school stores. This means that the store has to offer more healthy food. A lot of the food and beverages they were offering in the years before do not match this new criteria. We do know for sure they will have Dippin' Dots. Along with that, they will also be selling different types of apparel. Britlee Warren told me “Mrs. Slack was pushing [for] second hand spirit gear so that kids could have school spirit for cheap”. From what we know, the school store will be open in the MCIS and in the academic wing. There isn’t a lot of information to go around because Mrs Shlack decided to take on the school store herself. We do know that the school store will still be student run, but besides that Mrs. Shlack has taken the duty of opening the store by herself. The reason behind this is students not doing their work and complaining about their grades and how it reflected their work. A lot of students have been wondering why the school store isn’t open right now. The obvious reason is because of Covid. Covid has set everything back, and with everything being restricted it’s been harder and harder to try and open in. On top of that, the new regulations are making things difficult as well. On the good side, they just got approved for a new POS system. The school store has been working diligently to try and have a successful opening. Mrs. Shlack spoke up saying the school store has an aimed opening for mid November or December, but with students not being involved we have nop idea how close or far away it is from opening.
A lot of students have been saying the class is harder than it is in normal years. Britlee Warren says “It’s hard to enjoy a class when there’s nothing enjoyable about it.” Andra gatlin says the only thing getting him through the class is his “friends in the class”. The school store’s spirit has been hit hard this year. Trist McDaniel spoke up saying “I like that it’s [...] basically [like] running a business. It’s kinda the same at my mom’s store so I like it”.
Mrs. Shlack is back from her hiatus. Hopefully with her being back, the school store will be up and running here soon!
