Freshman Mary-Kate Wayne is off to a great start on the Milan High School swim team. “I have been swimming my whole life and looked forward to being on the Milan High School Swim Team for years,” said Mary-Kate. The first year on the team has been a wonderful experience for Mary-Kate. She joined a group of fantastic teammates that work hard at practice every day. For Milan swimmers, most practices start at 5:45 a.m. Swimmers then return after school for another two hours in the water.
Their hard work is paying off. “Right now, I’m 6th fastest in Milan High School history in the 100 Breaststroke,” said Mary-Kate. As a freshman, that is pretty impressive. Mary-Kate still has three more years to work towards the school record. For Mary-Kate, the sky’s the limit ability-wise.
Starting this strong your first year in high school in swimming is rare. “I am a freshman on the A Medley Relay,” said Mary-Kate. The Medley Relay and Mary-Kate’s 100 Breaststroke events will play an important role at the High School state meet. The team is positioned to win the state swim meet for the first time in over 40 years.
The Milan girls’ swim team has been the Huron League champions for 23 straight years. “We
were undefeated in the Huron League and look forward to doing great things at the state meet,” said Mary-Kate confidently. The whole community is behind the team and wishes Mary-Kate all the best as she continues her high school swim career and chases the 100 Breaststroke record.
