The Positivity of Puffs

Although it includes many long days spent at the school and lots of hard work, Maria Anthony loves being involved in Milan High School’s performing arts program.

Anthony is the prop master for Puffs, MHS’ upcoming fall play. Anthony is going on her second year of working as part of MHS’ tech crew.

“It’s sort of like Harry Potter, but different.” Anthony said when asked about Puffs, “It takes itself a lot less seriously and pokes fun at the original story of Harry Potter.”

On average, Anthony is at the theater for five to six hours most school nights. According to Anthony, this is typical for a large amount of the tech crew. Additionally, most of the cast is at the theater for a little over two hours a day.

Anthony encourages students to think about joining the performing arts program. “I joined because I heard it was fun, so I decided to walk down to the theater one day and now I’m there pretty much all the time.” Anthony also said, “It’s a good opportunity to make friends. Theater is always expanding, so if you’re feeling lonely trying out theater would be a good place to meet new people.”

Performances of Puffs are November 17 and 18 at seven p.m., and November 19 at two and seven p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at ShowTix4U at $8 for students and $12 for general admission.

According to Anthony, “Everyone should come to see Puffs because it’s really fun and we’ve all put a lot of effort into it.”
